Aviano Vipers Deploy to RAF Lakenheath August 2020

510FS deploy to RAF Lakenheath

On 28th August 2020, sixteen F-16s belonging to the 31st Fighter Wing based at Aviano Air Base in Italy, deployed to RAF Lakenheath, England to take part in an FTD (Flying Training Deployment) with the F-15s of the based 48th Fighter Wing and other NATO members.

Airmen of the USAFE 510 Fighter Squadron ‘The Buzzards’ will participate in this bilateral Flying Training Deployment to enhance interoperability and maintain joint readiness with allies. This deployment is expected to last for approximately one month and is the largest movement of airmen based at Aviano since COVID-19 struck.

The first F-16 touched down at RAF Lakenheath at 09:45L this was followed by fifteen more with the last at 11:13L. Support was provided by an 86AW Lockheed C-130J Hercules 07-8614/RS Herky676 on 24 August.
